Recycle Antiques... sometimes you just have to!

Recycle antiques... this may sound harsh, but sometimes you just have to!

My hubby and I were driving to town (we live in the country across the road from a cow farm!).. to get supplies, when we noticed quite a few garage or field sales!.. There was a sign on one very old looking cupboard, that said, take me or its firewood!.. It seemed such ashame, as it was obviously very old, very solid, but had been neglected for a very long time, and was no longer useful..

What a waste this would be, to end up as firewood, so my idea, was ... why not recycle antiques?.. especially ones that can no longer be brought back to life, without replacing most of it.. so get these freebies, and take them apart. Yard off the old hardware, and hinges etc, keep them for other projects.. and most of these cupboards tend to have "panels" in the doors, you can pry the panel off, and you would end up with 2 very unique pieces.. the panel to paint on, or decoupage in the center, or a million other ideas, and the frame left from the cupboard.. use it as an actual frame?

Then this cupboard would be useful once more, find out as much as you can about the piece, its age and type of wood etc from the seller, then you can make a little card for the frame stating the particulars, as this would be a "one of a kind" piece..

So when the antiques become way to "antique" and decrepit... then why not recycle antiques?.. its amazing how your imagination starts going...

If you have read a lot of pages in this website, you will know by now that I love to paint and sew, but painting is my main passion, if it doesn't move, then it gets painted!

I have learned my lesson about getting to wild with the paint brush.. we are trying to sell our house and my daughters room, was painted to look like a medevil castle with the stone walls, old chandelier and dragons.. (she picked the look!).. she loved it, she also just moved out on her own, and there I am trying to explain this room to the real estate agent!..anyways, that aside, there is nothing wrong with trying to keep old antiques from becoming firewood!... Recycle antiques!
